Project
The project area is the Ribeira Sao Joao Baptista watershed. It covers an area of approximately 51 km2. It is located in the southwest of the island of Santiago, 18 km from the capital "Praia", bounded to the southeast by the Ribeira Zimbrao watershed, to the east by the Ribeira Grande watershed and by the Ribeira Praia Grande watershed to the southeast. Its western part is bounded by the Santa Carla watershed to the north and the Ribeira Fundura watershed.
This watershed contains significant water resources.
The populations of the area are distributed between 9 localities and number around 4,500 people.
The project includes the following components:
A. Infrastructure studies:
- Infrastructure for mobilizing water resources:
- Torrential protection infrastructures:
- Soil protection infrastructure:
B. Capacity building
It includes the organization of information, awareness and training actions for the benefit of beneficiaries and technicians of the regional delegation of the M.A.A. in the areas of agricultural management and exploitation, new irrigation techniques, adaptation to climate change and improved agricultural production technologies, as well as community organization.
